Help and General Info
Comments:
In order to make comments, simply click on the link Comments (0) on the page you want to comment on. You must enter your name and email address in the required field. The email address is required since all comments are initially sent to the website’s owner via email. Your comment will most likely not show up immediately after you have made the comment, since the owner of the webpage has to approve your message before it will show up on the site. Also note: the “Abschicken” button, when making a comment, is the “okay” button.
When someone comments on your page, the comment will show up in your email inbox first. There are several links in your email. If you want to approve the comment (and therefore allow the comment show up on your page), you must click on the “for approval” link in your email. This will send you to your login at vanderveenfamily.net. Simply log in and hit “approve”. If you do not do this, the comments will not show up in your blog page. You can also see comments that need approval when you log into your page. On the blue bar on the top of the page will have “Awaiting Moderation (0)”. If the number is not zero, click here to view the comments. You can also choose to approve all the comments at once here too.
After several times that you approve comments from the same person for your page, the comments from that person will automatically be approved and therefore show up on the page. You may still receive an email when it is commented, but the email is just telling you about the comment and you do not need to approve it.
Pictures:
When you click on the “Write” tab in order to make a post, there is a box at the bottom of the page for adding pictures to your post. Hit “Browse…” to find your picture file (hopefully made slightly smaller in order to save those without high speed internet!). Once it has been uploaded, you will find your pictures when you hit the next tab (beside “Upload”), “Browse All”. Your pictures should all appear here. When you click on the picture once, the following menu should appear on top of the picture:

You can use these options to add your picture in the way you want it. Clicking on “Using Original” will change it to “Using Thumbnail”. Whatever is left showing is how it will add your picture. “Using Thumbnail” means your picture will show up small on your blog. Clicking on “Not Linked” will then show “Linked to Image”. This will allow viewers to click on your picture and the original, full-sized image to appear. Finally, clicking on “Send to Editor” will put the picture on your current post message, where you had left your cursor.
Otherwise, you can add your picture as is, and you will need to scale the image down yourself in order to fit it in. Keep in mind that bigger pictures will take longer to load on your page, as well as might not fit nice with the different computer screen sizes.
Changing your Template:
At the top of your page after you have logged in, in the blue bar, is “Appearance”. Click here to see different layouts. If you click on the view of the template or the name of the template, your site will automatically change to that layout. You can click on as many as you like, changing your site each time. The page will re-load everytime after you clidk one. You can click on the link “View Site >>” after the words “Theme Saved” at the top of the re-loaded page.
Adding Links:
This is under “Blogroll” in the blue bar at the top of your page after you have logged in. Simply enter the name of the website and the url in the appropriate boxes and hit save.
Editing and Deleting:
If you would like to edit posts you have made, or webpages, you can do so under “Manage” in the blue bar at the top of your page. You can also delete posts or publish saved posts here. A quick link to recent posts is also on the right hand side in a blue box initially after you log in. By clicking on your post title here, you can edit the post.
I know I already asked this, but I don’t know if it was ever replied to or if I just missed it…I’m trying to get my parents started on this thing and mom said she’s willing to learn when we come home for christmas. I was just wondering if its possible for a page to be ready for them? Their email adress is heinevv@shaw.ca
Thanks alot, Karen
